Turnip Fries

Ingredients:

  • ¾ lb peeled turnips
  • ½ tsp black pepper
  • 2 c buttermilk
  • 1 c fine cornmeal
  • 1 c flour
  • 2 tsp salt
  • canola oil

Instructions:

Cut peeled turnips into ½ inch thick sticks and toss with the buttermilk. Combine the cornmeal and flour, salt and pepper in a large bowl; add the turnips and toss to coat.

Heat ¼ inch of canola oil in a large skillet over medium heat. Add the turnips and cook until golden and crispy, about 5 min.

Sprinkle with chipped chives if desired. Serve with ketchup or favorite dipping condiment.
